RxR's Texas Tacos & BBQ

A farmer's market find I'm still daydreaming about...

ALERT THE MEDIA! It’s my very first local profile! I’m doing this to shed some light and offer some props to the people who tie their aprons and chef it up for us every day. It’s grueling, it’s sweaty, and they do it because they couldn’t do anything else. I want to focus on the little places this city has to offer. The ones open three days a week, the ones using strictly family recipes, the ones you stumble across on a walk and think I can get a 3 dollar breakfast burrito a 10 minute walk from my apartment!? Those kinds of little places, the ones with food you almost can't believe and stories you definitely can't.

This past weekend, I was at the City Park Farmer’s Market with a friend, TTT for short (Too Turnt Tyler for long, take a gander at how he found himself that nickname), browsing the trucks and tables for food. It was that late morning, 11am timeframe, where you realize you can opt for either breakfast or lunch, sweet or savory. Hell yeah. I like options—even though my indecisicivity is a fatal (well, I guess I’m still alive) flaw.

We were drawn in by RxR’s Texas Tacos & BBQ. It was the cheese and beans being melted and fried to a perfect golden brown onto tortillas that did it for me. Then, when I saw him scoop the shredded, smoked brisket, I was sold. I got a Guadelupe style barbacoa taco. It had refried beans on the tortilla, sealed in with a melted, bubbling layer of cheese, with a very hearty serving of slow cooked barbacoa on top. I then loaded it up with white onion and cilantro, finishing it off with a drizzle of salsa verde.

We ate them in the grass, where they stood no chance. We then stumbled upon RxR’s stand for the second time on our way out of the market, and I couldn’t help but stop for another one. “I’m back!” I exclaimed when I walked up to the stand. “Hell yeah I like the enthusiasm!” said the man working the flat top.

RxR Texas Tacos & BBQ can be found at a variety of farmer’s markets and festivals throughout the rest of the Summer and Fall, as well as at their Littleton location Wednesdays through Fridays from 9-1. It’s not many hours, but find a way to get there.
